Err… I shall assume you are correct, and I had it backwards, despite the fact I should know better than that (I have a mechanical engineering degree, and have actually used both hand-cranked machinists lathes, CNC lathes, and a really terrible approximation of the sort of lathe where the cutting tool is held directly in the hand) … As I said I shall assume that you are correct, rather than risking deeper embarrassment by looking it up and possibly PROVING to myself I had it wrong.

Seems a highly inaccurate method? Unless it was a cultivar/caliper (we shall ignore the fact it is technically a micrometer) pun? Or a “caliber” joke with auto-co-wrecked getting in the way.

Huh, I thought it was a caliper? Micrometers are more precise and generally built somewhat differently.
