While its timid demeanor and reluctance to use offensive moves would indicate to the novice that this Pokemon would be a good early catch in a trainerâs career, its tendency to languish in captivity and the difficulty of getting it to use moves under normal circumstances render this a poor choice for normal capture methods and even for most trainers.
One lesser known unique quality of this Pokemon is the ability to manipulate certain items that the mindset of most Pokemon precludes, and to do so proficiently despite their lack of opposable thumbs. More specifically, they can use potions of various sorts, burn-heals, etc. They will almost exclusively use these on other Pokemon and humans in preference to themselves.
While lacking the Flying type, Pika-shy can, in fact, use their wings, although they are quite slow and slightly clumsy in the air.
If desired for study, personal performance*, as a lap-pet, medical assistance, or law-enforcement (see below), this Pokemon should be captured by a slow and patient process of placing treats near ones-self at successively closer ranges over the course of several days. Do not make eyes contact until after the specimen has approached within easy armâs reach, and even then only after at least five (5) minutes of ear-scritches. Under no circumstances should damage or negative status effects be employed. Place the poke ball gently on the ground rather than throwing it. If the Pika-shy breaks out of the Pokeball, apply further treats and snuggles over at least two more days before attempting capture again. Repeat until successful.
*Under almost no circumstances should this Pokemon be entered in beauty contests, as they suffer extreme stage fright. The sole exceptions to this are vocalization demonstrations, which may be conducted from behind a curtain between the âmon and the audience, and conducting âOrchirpstrasâ of bird-like Pokemon.
The one exception to their unsuitability for battling is when used for law enforcement. In such a case keep the Pika-shy outside of its ball whenever possible, and read off and visually display BOLOâs* for dangerous criminals augmented by details of the arm caused by their crimes. The Pika-shy will cower during this. Apply comforting hand strokes as needed to maintain focus. Both too much fear and too much enjoyment can ruin retention of information on criminals. Do not command Pika-shy to attack in the field. It will self a activate and use strong electric and mind effecting effects whenever it becomes sufficiently righteously angry at a given perpetrator. Injury to the officer or another of the officerâs Pokemon will often trigger this.
